What are you buying the new edition for?
SEGA groups the content into three campaigns: the main SHOGUN 2 struggle for control of Japan, Rise of the Samurai’s earlier clan conflict, and Fall of the Samurai’s encounter with industrial warfare. Announced changes include an interface that scales for 1440p and 4K screens, revised controls, updated lighting, ultrawide support and colourblind options. Those are concrete features to compare with the way you currently play; they do not establish how well the new build will run.
SEGA also promises existing owners the original DLC at no charge, with a Blood Pack exclusion in its announcement. That legacy-content grant is separate from buying the updated edition. SEGA’s announcement
Check the new hardware listing rather than relying on the original game’s requirements. Steam currently specifies a 64-bit Windows 10 system, 8 GB RAM, an i3-8100 and GTX 1060 3 GB at minimum, with 70 GB of storage. Compare that list with your own PC before treating the age of SHOGUN 2 as a reason to expect easy performance. Complete Edition requirements
Which choice fits your situation?
- Continuing a modded campaign: keep the original installation.
- Interested in the updated features: inspect your account’s offer at launch.
- You are buying for the first time: use the new listing linked above and check your hardware. Avoid assuming an older Complete Edition bundle or guide describes this 2026 release.
Save transfer remains an open question in the official pages checked for this guide. Mod incompatibility does not establish save incompatibility. If continuing a particular campaign is essential, wait for an explicit save-support statement before making that your reason to upgrade.
This guide will be rechecked when standalone sales change, the new edition launches, or the publisher clarifies save transfer and regional purchase terms.

Frequently asked questions
Which installation should I keep for an existing modded campaign?
Keep the original SHOGUN 2 installation. The publisher FAQ cited in this article distinguishes original-game mods from the new Complete Edition, which uses mod.io and does not support those old mods.
Does mod incompatibility mean my old save cannot transfer?
No. Mod compatibility and save transfer are separate questions. At this article’s September 25, 2026 source check, save transfer was not confirmed. Wait for an explicit publisher statement before relying on it.
