When you start a mission/scenario, move your mouse over the desired hero at the bottom of the screen so that it is highlighted. These cheats will then affect only that hero. If you hover over another hero and then hover over the modified one again, you will see the new attribute values immediately. The change in attributes is only temporary and will be reset to the original values when distributing stat points, for example. Nevertheless, the temporary increase is very useful.
